August News

Much has been happening lately in Nottingham lately. Firstly The Elementz dropped an amazing album (Notts Hip Hop Blog review coming soon), Cappo is appearing on Sonnyjim's eagerly awaited Trading Standards mixtape, there has been a large amount of new songs coming from the CRS camp (check out their MySpace pages) and lastly The Elementz (yeah, them again) have hooked up with some yank called Lil Wayne for a track! Which is big news, having one of the most popular rappers in the world on your beat is likely to get you that much deserved attention.

Attention: Please excuse the lack pf updates lately. I've been busy. More blogging coming soon!

The Elementz - Crushmode Review in HHC

This review is from Hip Hop Connection (#225):

(3 Stars)
Though it comes heavily stocked with sizeable chunks of electro and grime - peep the pacy video-game opener 'Select Players' - the latest from Notts-based 'aural impressionists' Liati and Zoutr boast broader focus. Deep dub grooves propel 'Crush Theme', while the verbal sparring ("I got the juice like Bishop/You still can't get your words out like hiccups") and taut drum tattoo of 'SKIM' are reminiscent of classic Ultramags. A win for grumbling bass and sparse snares then. HUGE LEASK

Cappo & Scorzayzee Tracks

Without a doubt Cappo and Scorzayzee are two of the best emcees to ever come out of Nottingham, so I decided to look at their collaborations together and rate them.

#6*
Track: Try
From: C-Mone's Default 12" (Dark Whisper Records, 2004)
*I'm currently unable to write about this track, because I'm yet to hear it. I do have it on vinyl, but I'm yet to buy some new turntables.

#5
Track: Blueberry Dream Haze
From: Apocraphe's Long Don Spilverbs (Main Rock Records, 2004)
Here Apocraphe hires Caps and Scorz to feature on his track. The beat is relaxed and both artists ride it well. Because of the way the song is structured and the overtone of it all, it seems both artists are out of their elements.

#4
Track: The Looniest
From: Cappo's The Codex EP (Son Records, 2000)
Cappo and Scorzayzee's first track. Cappo takes the first three verses and it seems as if this collabo was never meant to happen, while listening to it, it feels like Scorz has just happened to add a few bars to the end of the song. The song is still very decent with both artists delievering good verses.

#3
Track: No Pain, No Gain
From: Styly Cee's The Crusoe EP (Son Records, 2001)
Producer Styly Cee provides the beat for the duo to go back and forth. This track is proof that when Scorz and Caps are better together when they go back and forth instead of sticking to a verse each. The last verse is the best without a doubt.

#2
Track: 3 Kings
From: P Brothers' Live Hardcore Worldwide Pt 2 (Heavy Bronx Records, 2004)
Mr 45, Scorz and Cappo lay their vocals over a heavy P Brothers beat. Scorz spits first and delievers an excellent verse (- and one of my personal favourites), Cap's holds his own with the second verse, then 45 finishes off the track with a great verse. Although Lee Ramsay gets shouted out on the track (twice), he is missing for some reason. But there is a live version featuring him. This track showcases alot of Notts talent. It's a classic.

#1
Track: Speak
From: Cappo's Spaz The World (Zebra Traffic, 2003)
Here Scorz joins Cappo on his classic Spaz The World LP. With a beat produced by the P Brothers, the emcees go back and forth, taking it in turns to tear apart the track. Both artists excell in the flow and lyrics departments, this track features plenty of quoteable lines, such as "For those that wanna use the mic, I'm still shittin' on it, I'll walk out your house, with your coutch with you sittin' on it".

Cappo and Scorzayzee make a excellent duo, but when the P Brothers get involved too, the outcome is even great. Hopefully soon we'll be blessed with even more matterial together.

Scorzayzee/ The P Brothers - Great Britain Lyrics

[Intro - Talking]
I got soul

Yo, They say, "Take away a man's freedom, is to take a man's soul"
Yeah
If you believe in evolution, then where's ya soul? (where's ya soul?)
Great Britain, Freemasons

[Verse 1]
Yo, the BNP still exists in Great Britain
Police brutality exists in Great Britain
Slavery made the riches of Great Britain
The Queen wears stolen diamonds, Great Britain
Her husband's a Freemason, Great Britain
They killed Lady Di, Great Britain
Do I have to go into why, Great Britain?
Your politicians are corrupt, Great Britain
Your prison's full of crooks, Great Britain
Your education system is corrupt, Great Britain
Your laws are played out and fucked up, Great Britain
The IRA used to bomb your streets, Great Britain
Then you're shaking hands in a deal, Great Britain
Thought you never negotiate with terrorists, Great Britain
Are Muslims your only nemesis, Great Britain?
The FBI's paedophile list, Great Britain
But keep it on a hush-hush-hush, Great Britain

[Chorus]
Yo, if I had an army, I would fight ya
If I had the police, I'd arrest ya
If I had my own court, my own judge and jury
I'd sit back and let history tell the story

If I had an army, I would fight ya
If I had the police, I'd arrest ya
If I had my own court, my own judge and jury
I'd sit back and let history tell the story

[Verse 2]
You sold weapons to Iraq, Great Britain
You sold your soul to America - the Devil, Great Britain
You haven't got no religion, Great Britain
Do you really believe in Jesus, Great Britain?
Thou shall not kill, Great Britain
Thou shall not steal, Great Britain
The homeless roam your streets, Great Britain
It's all about your stocks and shares, Great Britain
A mortgage wrapped round your neck for years, Great Britain
The bank manager borrows you money, Great Britain
Now you're in a whole heap of debt, Great Britain
Poverty is on your doorstep, Great Britain
Sit back and watch TV, Great Britain
Watch the adverts and buy shit, Great Britain
Everything on finance for you, Great Britain
A slave to the system every day, Great Britain
While the rich take over your brain, Great Britain

[Verse 3]
Don't believe what you read in the news, Great Britain
You gave Palestine to the Jews, Great Britain
Stick your nose in people's affairs, Great Britain
Councillors on 60 grand a year, Great Britain
More than the soldiers in Iraq, Great Britain
Then you have to pay your council tax, Great Britain
The queen lives in a house like Saddam Hussein
They're both rich
So I guess they're both one and the same (Ho!)
Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves
Pirates on the ships just searching for the slaves
Control the world in this New World Order
Coulda spent the war money on homes, food and water
I was born and raised in Great Britain
Brainwashed and put in a daze by Great Britain
I learnt how to rap myself in Great Britain
Yo, there's nuttin' better than livin’ in Great Britain

The P Brothers - New Religion in HHC

The P Brother's New Religion (which features Boss Money) was featured as the 2nd best trackof the last month in the new HHC (#220 - March 2008). Here's the review:

Hard with a hypnotic twist, this is business as usual from the Brothers P, once more proving that we all love that Bronx sound at heart. Money Boss emigrants Eddie Cheeba and Trey Bad bring the vocab, remembering how, "Made a couple of dollars, I guess it made plenty sense/I think it was 1989 I lost my innocence." The forthcoming album features Rock Marciano, Milano, Cappo and Sadat X. No brainer.

New Religion is out Feb 27th
